As we look back on 2020, a challenging and unpredictable year for many of us, we realize we have a lot to be proud of. The Gold Leaf Technologies team continues to grow, and we are excited about what 2021 has in store for us.
With this in mind, we are pleased to share an update from our founder and CEO, Trevor Golding
2020 was a year unlike any other and yet here we are – we have persevered and made it through! As we get into the swing of 2021, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the year that was and look ahead to a very bright future (pun intended). Despite the challenges we faced this year, we have made great strides. We saw our business grow by 74%, which is a huge accomplishment for our team. Gold Leaf added two new staff members who have helped us tremendously and made great contributions to our business. I cannot express how proud I am of our team and how we have battled to find success.
This year also marked the beginning of several new partnerships, including Heliospectra, Thrive Agritech, Microclimates and Scanit Technologies. With the support of these new partners, we’re well positioned to offer a diverse product mix that will help our customers be more successful and more efficient in the coming years.
In terms of the horticultural lighting industry, what excites me the most is the continued innovation and efficiency improvements. Since we started selling lighting solutions in 2018, efficiency levels have improved by more than 50%, which is incredible. Growers are starting to get more comfortable using LED lighting as their go-to lighting source, and the transition is in full effect. In the past there has been some reluctance to change because of the capital outlay. This year we are committed to putting that behind us with Lighting as a Service (LaaS) and lease to own offerings that will make it easier for growers to make the transition. With power grid limitations, significant rebate offerings, and the push to reduce carbon emissions, 2021 promises to be a year of change for the better. As a father of two, sustainability initiatives are important to me. I want to make sure that we are leaving this world in good shape for the next generation and the ones that follow. This industry has a lot to offer and I have enjoyed every minute of this three-and-a-half-year journey.
In 2021, our goal is to scale the business. We have hired a business coach with decades of entrepreneurial experience to help guide us through this period of rapid growth. I am extremely excited about the prospect of growing our team and bringing some new talent into the mix. Every time our team expands it makes me extremely proud as a business owner, because it means that our customer base is growing and continues to trust us.
In closing, I want our community to know that we are very optimistic about the future as we look back on the crazy year that was 2020. If we can get through 2020, we can do anything.
I look forward to our journey ahead!
